1. Plan the production process for a new media product

Brand name: Snapple

Our brand name for our product

Our decided name is 'Snapple' we believe that this is a suitable name because it is quick and snappy. I believe this name is unique and will be remember able for the audience and gives a good insight to what our company is about.

Description of product:

The product we have chosen is a surreal side table designed by Steve Mclean for technology, this product has been made out of MDF wood in which he would have used an industrial white spray paint to make it seem smoother, then he polished it and added a metal handle on, the metal handle would be better because it will be easier on the hands than a wooden one. Damages aren't a problem with this material, with a little bit of industrial spray, most scratches will come out easily without extensive repair.

Proposal

This product has a unique modern design that is better off suited towards younger generations as it has a very unique modern design with the actual draw being within a square borderline, The white paint acts as a subconscious selling point as the product appears as if it is clean and very modern, as furniture is classically a typical wooden brown colour (just like Apple making most of their starting products white. The Draw could used as a small desk if needed and appears interesting in a modern designed residency.
With the advert we wanted to have a certain feel to it, we wanted it to feel as if it was serious and selling a advanced product, we also felt that we wanted a comedic side to it to appeal to our target audience.
This was created because the unique design is not as recognised as is should be, the creator is called Steve Mclean and is a student at The Beacon School, as of this he is not as renown as he is wanting to be so we wanted to create awareness of this outstanding project that the maker surely deserves. Overall we desired to increase the sales in Steve Mclean's product, also we wanted to understand the demand of products like this and decide on whether to continue making similar products in the future, also this would help us have an understanding of who precisely we are aiming at and whether he needs to adapt his work to fulfil the needs of others and what price range falls into the people that it's aimed at i.e..students/ young adult.

Assignment of roles within our group.

The video above shows us declaring our roles whithin the group, whilst I was deciding what role I was talking, Jazmin was recording. I recorded Yusuf, Yusuf recorded Jazmin.

Estimated time

We estimated that the time that we will take would be one hour filming and one and a half hours editing. We believe that the filming shouldn't take too long because we are positive on what we're shooting, and the editing is a harder task to complete because it is too precise.

Estimated Costs

I estimate that our product will cost around £60 because of the unique design and the specific materials used to create this drawer. A HD camera would cost around £180 and the tripod would cost roughly £30, the mac mini would cost £500.The cost of the production would be free as the school has supplied us with the certified equipment to help complete the task.

Location Decisions:

I went out scouting for possible locations, these are the select few which were acceptable in most areas of safety and production.

Outside the main hall due to the amount of light and space we would have, this is especially great because we will always have this area free during media. The disadvantages to this area are the fact that we have to use natural light which is always changing.

Technology Department was another viable place to shoot the advertisement as there was plenty of windows for light to get in and the product is positioned there so there won't be any misdirection to whether we're allowed to move it or when, if we can. The disadvantages include if it is too bright, there is nothing i can do because there is no blinds, and in lesson times there will be loads of clothes and bags on the hooks so we will have to plan ahead for when we want to shoot there.

The atrium is a viable place to shoot as it has a glass roof, this means that a lot of light can get in. The problems with this place is that it will rarely be free and if its rainy there would be too much noise, and if its cloudy then there will be not enough light.

We will be using the mac minis to edit our final pieces and have booked a free slot when it is available to use in one of our free periods.

Schedule Of Activities

Pre production- scripts and storyboards (completed)
production- filming on the 6th October 2011 11:30
                     Editing on the 7th October 2011 12:25

Equipment and Materials

Equipment- We would need to use recording equipment to film capture the footage we need, a tri-pod to obtain smooth and steady shots and a source to edit the footage from.

We will be using a high definition 'Canon Legria' camera to obtain high quality shots. This is useful because it spares no detail in our footage.

The tri-pods that we will be using are huge and the legs are made out of metal so it would be hard to break and will remain steady.

We're going to use a mac mini's iMovie programme to edit the footage, it is really precise with how we can cancel sound and crop clips.

Materials- We will have the material on the camera until we have finished editing to ensure we have the clips that we need. Until we have finished editing, it shall stay on the cameras memory stick as backup for if we lose it before its uploaded to the blog.

Materials To be Ordered

Because we are supplied by the school and have eveything we need, we will not require ordering anything. If we did need to, it would have been either ordered within the schools budget or we could of ordered the equipment if desired and recieved it sooner than ordering with the school.

Contingency plan

These are the solutions to viable dilemmas:
Weather will only effect our audio as we are inside, but we can remove audio on the certain parts that are noisy.
Absence of one of our group members is a simple problem to fix, we will simply carry on with what we have to do and the member who is missing can continue the work when they get back. If that member knows what they are doing they may be able to work from home.

If someone was to break a part of the equipment we would have to replace it for the time being and continue the production, if we were able to fix the piece of equipment, that will be useful because we won't be taking up anyone else's filming time. Payment would have to be taken into consideration after the production.
